Hidden Miracles

Dear Praying Friends,

The most important things are not visible for the eye. We are so blind that we are easily pass even the miracles God performed in our midst. Let me share with you 3 hidden miracles that I recently became aware of.

Hidden Miracle #1

In the past 5 years our new government passed through the legislation so many new laws that it is printed on 260 thousand (!) pages! That is 60 thousand pages more than all the laws created between 1945 and 2010. Since 2010, this government created more laws (and a new Constitution) than the communist government in 45 years and the post-communist governments in 20 years combined together. Of course, that created an incredible legal chaos in the country. As a result of that chaos, thousands of civil organizations had been shut down and hundreds of churches and mission organizations went under. During this period we had to create 3 different legal entities and faced with incredible legal and financial threats. YET, we had not been shrinking - like most civil organizations - but grew. That's an unseen, but unbelievable miracle!!!

Hidden Miracle #2

Recently one of our staff gave a talk in a church. One of the church leader came up to him and showed our staff his Bible. On the front page of his Bible was written a name that was familiar to our staff. That name was the name of a student he helped to come to faith in Christ 22 years ago. Doki was the name of that student. Doki grew fast in his new faith and became very serious about sharing the gospel. One of his classmate in university was a true atheist, hating God. But Doki left his own Bible with his atheist friend who at that point showed absolutely no interest in God. A few years after graducation - unkown to Doki and to any of us - this atheist guy started to read the Bible he got from Doki. God's Word pierced him. He couldn't escape from it and gave his life to Christ. Now, 20 years later, he is an elder of a church and is still using daily that Bible Doki left with him. Our efforts are not in vain!

Hidden Miracle #3

In 1983, during my high school years, I became a good friend of a guy, called Peter. He was a very talented musician. We've studied the Bible together and I've typed the first Hungarian version of the 4 Spiritual Laws on his typewriter. (During communism using typewriter was the only way to print and copy evangelistic materials.) In the past few years Peter moved to a small town where he worked hard to revive the spiritual life of that community. He was praying for a pastor to come his church, but there was no hope to find one. Recently God answered Peter's prayers and brought an ordained Presbyterian pastor to his town and he became the pastor of his congregation. What's amazing in this story is this: the pastor, named Berci, is a former student of our ministry who became a believer 20 years ago through YTL and we've discipled him for a few years. We've lost contact with him, and during these years Berci became a pastor and now he is pastoring the church my old friend started. What a blessing to see the fruits of our labor after so many years!!!

This quote from Bonhoeffer summarizes well the truths behind these stories: "God does not go the way that people want to prescribe for him; rather, his way is beyond all comprehension, free and self-determined beyond all proof. Where reason is indignant, where our nature rebels, where our piety anxiously keeps us away: that is precisely where God loves to be. There he confounds the reason of the reasonable; there he aggravates our nature, our piety—that is where he wants to be, and no one can keep him from it. Only the humble believe him and rejoice that God is so free and so marvelous that he does wonders where people despair, that he takes what is little and lowly and makes it marvelous. And that is the wonder of all wonders, that God loves the lowly…. God is not ashamed of the lowliness of human beings. God marches right in. He chooses people as his instruments and performs his wonders where one would least expect them. God is near to lowliness; he loves the lost, the neglected, the unseemly, the excluded, the weak and broken."

Remember us in your prayers!

  1. On January 25th Renato will have a surgery where the steel rod that was installed into his chest 3 years ago will be removed. It gives him a lot of trouble so he is looking forward to get rid of it. Hopefully it will be not as painful as the first surgery was.
  2. We've enjoyed some time with Rahel as she was home. She'll be flying back to England on Friday. She still has some difficult exams. We are investigating several med schools for her both in England and in Hungary. We have no idea how God will provide for this, but please, be in prayer for her future.
  3. As you know, our desire and prayer is to turn over the leadership at the end of this year - after almost 13 years by that time. Please, be in prayer for the selection process. God has a perfect plan, we just need to discover it. We want to keep it with open hands and humble heart what He has for all of us in this process!

Our whole family is overwhelmed by the fact that you are praying for us, caring for us and loving us. What a blessing you are to us! Thank you!!!
